Gay Marriage
Gay marriage and its legalization is one of the most controversial topics in the modern society. In the 21st century, people’s re-evaluation of love and homosexual relationships becomes increasingly common. The recognition of gay marriages is a social, political, and religious issue in many countries around the globe. However, gay marriages are unacceptable as they may bring about the end of the marriage institution and affect the development of children.
There is a belief that gay marriages are harmful to the natural development and well-being of children. Same-sex marriages, gay ones in particular, send children wrong messages and affect their opinion about a couple that consists of a man and a woman as well as their desire to raise children (Warshire, 2013). Such marriages can lead to moral degradation and negatively influence future generations.
Children brought by gay couples are less confident and have lower levels of self-esteem than those from traditional families. Their mental state and health are also affected, especially in the adulthood. Children should be taught tolerance at school, and the content of some subjects should be changed to make children understand why two men marry. However, it is not natural, and children realize it.
In addition, gay marriages oppose nature. The law of nature suggests the idea that a couple consists of a man and a woman who raise children (Gallagher, 2004). However, two individuals of the same sex regardless of social status, wealth, fame, and race will never equal a traditional marriage due to an insurmountable biological impossibility.
Next, gay and lesbian marriages are intrinsically sterile. Such spouses cannot have their own children in a natural way. Therefore, they should circumvent nature by costly and artificial means. In many cases, they employ surrogates. Inability to create a traditional family is the major issue that is often used as the main argument against gay marriages.
Many religions are against same-sex marriages. They oppose such union and claim that it is against the laws of the Bible. Marriage is a religious institution, and people should not offend the God. Gay and lesbian marriages will change the human culture (10 Reasons Why Homosexual “Marriage” is Harmful and Must be Opposed, 2014). However, accepting gay marriages, human culture may face the threat of disappearance.
Gay marriages give the right to apply for the traditional marriage benefits such as social security payments from a deceased spouse, a tax exemption for a spouse, and coverage by a spouse’s health insurance policy. Nevertheless, people should not work to pay taxes supporting the institutions they believe are wrong.
Marriage has always been a union between a man and a woman. Throughout the history and by nature, it is procreation, bringing up, and education of children as well as the well-being of the spouses (Gallagher, 2004). Gay marriages deny the physiological, biological, and psychological differences between women and men and interfere with the marriage institution. In addition, they deny the major purpose of marriage that presupposes the perpetuation of the human race (Warshire, 2013). Natural law is rooted in the human nature, and gay marriages violate this law causing harm to the whole society.
Thus, gay marriages weaken the marriage institution and are against the laws of religion and nature. They affect the natural development of children as the latter need a mother and a father rather than two fathers or two mothers. Moreover, gay marriages may lead to the incestuous, polygamous, the other non-traditional relationships in the society and will be disastrous for the humanity.
