Introduction

In the course of this week, the city has experienced one of the most dangerous dysentery and diarrhea epidemics than ever before, notably the increase of blood diarrhea patient in both public and private hospital has seen a drastic increase almost doubling the number of previous victims who had been hospitalized the previous week. Even though many patients have been treated and discharged, still a considerable number of victims are turning up in the hospital in search of medical treatment. Those who have been   hospitalized have been diagnosed to have been infected by dysentery leading to high death rates and weak dehydrated patients.

Common safety issues related to food purchase, storage and preparation

In pursuit to prevent further spread of the dysentery epidemic. It is essential to purchase food from trusted vendors whose food has not been contaminated. When going for grocery shopping for instance one should be sure to fresh and clean food first then purchase refrigerated and frozen foods for last. Also never chose meats or packages of foods that are tone or stored in unclean place. Specifically, the vendor should store food for purchase in clean compartment to avoid being contaminated. In the grocery store for instance avoiding of cans that are bulging or jars that have cracks or loose lids can be of great help in keeping the food fresh and covered. At the same time right temperatures should also be maintained to avoid development of bacteria.

At home, food refrigerator and freezer can be used to store food save free from infections and protecting it from exposure of flies which are as contaminating agents. In case of one suspect that the food might have gone bad, it is advisable not to taste it. If it looks bad or smells bad you need not to use it but throw it away. In addition if you are not sure that the food is not good just throw it away. Lastly it is good practice to wash your hands well before preparing food or eating, Keep your work area clean, wash rags and utensils clean thoroughly and store them dry.

Like any other forms of diarrhea, the dysentery bacterium infection is spread through coming into contact with human stool .When people become infected with the bacterium; they excrete large numbers the disease causing pathogens organisms in their stools. If the pathogens from these stools in any way come into contact with food or water, other people ingest them hence become infected by the dysentery causing bacteria. Moreover, dysentery bacteria are so infectious that small amount of the disease causing organisms can proliferate from one person's hands to another’s hand very easily.

In order to assure adequate prevention of the spread of the infectious dysentery   epidemic, hand washing with soap and breastfeeding are the recommend habitual practice.
