Advocacy Plan

Non-Communicable Diseases (Global)

The advocacy strategy for non-communicable diseases should consist of several stages as far as it is connected to a variety of issues. The first step is monitoring of the current situation because the number of people who suffer from such type of diseases should determine how many resources should be devoted for the prevention (WHO, 2000). The second element is prevention because all diseases that belong to the category share similar factors that follow from the lifestyle. Consequently, prevention should be based on the media campaign to promote healthy habits. Media can influence the perception of the current mainstream activities and create another image supporting it with celebrities. The third stage that is prevention should exist with the help of governmental and social initiatives (WHO, 2000). Meetings, events, and other activities that are completed by many individuals increase their motivation through the group spirit; therefore, the change of lifestyle in a group is much more effective than an individual approach of media. As the last instance, management should be directed at the preparedness of health care providers to deal with non-communicable diseases if people failed to prevent them (WHO, 2000). That is why this stage requires the improvement of professionals’ qualification level and technology. In addition, it should also improve the accessibility of such services by individuals through the decrease of costs.

Obesity in the United States of America (National)

Obesity is a national problem so that it should be mostly governmental initiative because of its interest in the solution of this problem. Annual statistics provide an overview of the situation with obesity in the country and help the government to modify budget and its allocation for this issue. The authority should influence the system through legislation and limitations of companies and people in their actions. Laws that force employers to provide gym facilities and design work schedules in a way that enable people to find time to cook are beneficial for both sides because the health of employees results in their performance in a workplace. The prevention should also include the reduction of the consumption of soft drinks, sugar in products on 20 percent, support for businesses that work on innovations that may change individuals’ lifestyle, and development of a new framework by updating the nutrient profile model (HM Government, 2016). In addition, the government may stimulate the increase of variety of healthy options in the market, support of individuals who cannot afford healthy food and sports activity for children (HM Government, 2016). Civic organizations can also introduce seminars that teach people on the causes and effects of obesity. Besides, they can work with school and monitor their options for the creation of a unified system about possibilities related to physical activity and their personal evaluation. In addition, food labeling and the help of health professionals for families that struggle with physical activity complete a variety of actions from the national plan (HM Government, 2016). Consequently, the fight against obesity should be directed at a specific circle of individuals and remain inclusive due to different social representation in a spacial setting.

Lung Cancer in Texas (State)

The advocacy plan from the state perspective does not differentiate from the general model introduced in the global description. Talking about the monitoring, the issue is studied by the health department in Texas that claims that a general situation with the sphere has improved since 2016 (Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, 2018). The prevention phase works in three directions that are the promotion of change in policy, behavior, and environment through the elimination of tobacco wares and change of attitude to them. In addition, another step is the improvement of the health care industry and infrastructure to save people with cancer. That is why the plan should include communication and expertise for the prevention of the issue.
